Direct price calculation refers to the calculation path that does not use yesterday’s price for smoothing. This is the method used in the price calculator above.

The full IHS price calculation takes into account a 5-day smoothing using yesterday’s price. This is the same calculation used for the actual selling price of new IHS in the dashboard.

FAQ dotyczące obliczania cen IHS

Dlaczego istnieje minimalna cena sprzedaży?

We have a minimum selling price for new Infinity Hash Stacks because, at some point, ASICs (Bitcoin mining machines) won’t get any cheaper due to production costs (even if the Bitcoin price were to go down a lot). A sudden crash in the IHS price would allow new investors to dilute the actual hashrate per IHS by buying up IHS when it is mispriced (too cheap) and thus “steal” the hashrate from existing investors. We update the minimum selling price for new IHS via community votes regularly to reflect changes in ASIC production costs.

Why is the IHS price smoothed?

We added the smoothing described in 3.) of the full IHS price calculation path to the price model to ensure that 4 or 5 hours of downtime due to power outages or other temporary problems wouldn’t completely crash the IHS price, but long-term changes still get reflected in the IHS price. Furthermore, the 5-day smoothing prevents too extreme price surges to the upside due to anomalies in daily earnings (e.g., high block fees).

I tried to calculate it myself, and the formula doesn’t work!

Please make sure to calculate everything in BTC, not in USD prices. The new IHS selling price is calculated in BTC once per day and is not changed until the next calculation 24 hours later. The USD price is only for easy understanding in the dashboard and will change intraday based on BTC price changes. In case you have any questions, feel free to contact our support at any time.
